Important Update: After a brief pause in program due to the Lockdown in South Australia, the Illuminate Adelaide: East End Echoes event will return from 6pm on Thursday 29th July until Sunday 1st August.
In its inaugural year, Illuminate Adelaide will be transforming Rundle Street and its adjoining laneways into a playground of light and immersive art, as East End Echoes unlocks the history of the East End precinct with captivating storytelling and stunning visual displays.
Traverse the trail as it takes you on an audio & visual journey curated by illuminart and experience each of the 12 landmarks as the iconic sites come alive with stories of a bygone era.
Using headphones to listen to the soundtrack of performed voice, soundscape elements and music, you’ll meet many of the people that have inspired the projections. Lose yourself to the night and uncover the clues of kaleidoscopic vegetables, deconstructed daubist art, and firecracker fashion to be found along the way.
The creative team at illuminart have interviewed widely to capture the stories and develop the soundscapes and projection installations. Recordings of community members, business owners, former residents and creative people have been interwoven into a 45 minute walking track. The 12 sites can be viewed in any order and don’t require you to listen or watch all in one setting, just BYO your headphones and mobile device to listen and explore.
Listening to the unfolding stories of people who have lived and created in years gone by, while you stroll past an array of historic material and surreal memories, will bring a deeper dimension – the past among the present – to all the sites along the East End Echoes trail.
